How discounting works at Shutterstock
Shutterstock licenses stock photography, video, music and editorial content, sold as monthly download allowances or as on-demand image packs. It is one of the two default libraries in the industry.
The pricing trap is specific and expensive: a monthly subscription includes a download allowance, and unused downloads generally do not roll over indefinitely. Businesses routinely buy a large monthly plan, use a fraction of it, and pay for the rest. If your usage is lumpy — a burst of downloads twice a year — the on-demand packs, which do not expire as quickly, are usually the cheaper structure.

Count your real downloads before choosing a plan
Unused allowance is the single largest waste in stock media. Size the plan to your actual usage, not your ambition.
Check the free libraries first
For generic imagery the free stock sites are often good enough. Pay for what they cannot cover.
Understand the licence you are buying
Standard and enhanced licences differ on print runs, merchandise and resale. Buying the wrong one is a legal problem, not a cost one.
