italki is a marketplace for one-to-one language lessons over video. Teachers set their own rates and you buy lessons directly from them, which makes the price range enormous — the same language can cost four times as much from one teacher as another.
The distinction that saves the most money is professional teachers versus community tutors. Professional teachers hold qualifications and charge accordingly; community tutors are fluent speakers offering conversation practice at much lower rates. For building fluency through conversation, which is what most learners actually need after the basics, the community tutor is frequently the better purchase as well as the cheaper one.
